Leading up to 2026, the odds of the Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar dropping a new album this year were riding high. But as the months go by without much news to go by, fans are left wondering if the wait will stretch even longer.
And yet, not all hope is lost for a new release still in this calendar year. Industry insiders, behind-the-scenes cues, and prediction market odds indicate that the Los Angeles lyricist could drop a new release still in 2026.
Kendrick’s upcoming project would mark his seventh full-length record, following the tremendous success of GNX, released on November 22, 2024. Given how critically acclaimed and culturally significant the now 2‑year‑old release was, it’s safe to say Kendrick’s upcoming project has big shoes to fill.
Kalshi users are still clinging to a belief that Kendrick will deliver before year’s end. On the platform, 40% of bettors are putting their money on a drop before December, and another group of 30% of users on that market are betting on a release before November.

Still, prediction markets are hardly solid news to go by.
That said, around 2 months ago, the social media profile @thesourcemzk, an X (formerly Twitter) profile known for dropping first-hand scoops in the music industry, hinted that the rapper was finishing a still-untitled album, expected to release very soon.
Given that this profile is usually right, or at least early, this cryptic tweet was enough to rile up fans in anticipation of something big on the horizon.
This was the same profile that correctly called the precise blueprint for Drake’s ICEMAN era months in advance. “Thesourcemzk” even got the exact guest features and unique album format for ICEMAN before Drake’s team made any official announcements.
And the hints don’t really stop there.
Earlier this year, hip-hop commentator and streamer “DJ Akhademics” stated during a livestream that there was a strong chance Lamar’s new album dropped in 2026:
“If he drops this year, which I’m under good authority to speculate,” DJ Akhademics said. “He has some things up his sleeve, and not just being on Baby Keem’s album.”
While AK sided with OVO during the historic Kendrick–Drake feud, his deep connections inside the industry further fuel speculations of an upcoming release.
Finally, there’s one more piece to this puzzle that implies that a new album could be closer than we think. A few weeks ago, DJ Dahi — one of Kendrick’s most trusted, core architectural hitmakers — previewed “How to Pray,” a new collab with Kendrick Lamar and Amber Mark for his upcoming album.
Even though this alone confirms next-to-nothing about Kendrick’s 7th release, it does show that he is cutting brand-new verses and vocal arrangements, proving his creative engine is running hot right now.
Kendrick’s not known for having a fast turnaround when it comes to full-length releases. After all, his last and second-to-last albums dropped within 5 years.
That said, the fact that Drake sort of reignited the feud after releasing a whopping 43 tracks in 2026, taking jabs at Lamar in several of them, such as “Make Them Remember,” means a strategic counter-strike from the Compton lyricist could be on the table sooner than expected.
